- STAFF REPORT

Girls Preparatory School announced during the weekend that one of its own is returning to direct the Bruisers’ volleyball program.

Jasmine Brown from the GPS class of 2009 is the new head coach after serving as an assistant for Louisville’s Atlantic Coast Conference co-champions last fall. She played four years at Tennessee, with the Volunteers reaching the NCAA tournament all four and winning a Southeastern Conference championship, and then was an assistant coach for high school region champs at Christian Academy of Knoxville and Berea Christian in Knoxville.

She helped lead GPS to state titles as an all-tournament player in 2007 and the state MVP in 2008. She was a volleyball and basketball team captain as a senior and also participated four years in track and field.

“While her accomplishments as a player and a coach are quite impressive, what we’re most excited about is the passion Jasmine has for investing in the lives of her players and teaching life lessons that extend far beyond the court,” GPS athletic director Jay Watts said in the announcement release. “We are incredibly fortunate to be able to have Jasmine come back home to GPS and continue to elevate our program to a higher level.”

Said Brown: “I am really looking forward to building on to the success that the team has experienced over the last couple of years and grateful to be coming into a program with a solid foundation.”
