James (Jim) H. Hulsey Sr., 94, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., passed away on April 29, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He was a retired General Contractor who was well-known throughout the Chattanoog­a constructi­on community.

Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a WWII submarine veteran. He completed three war patrols in the South Pacific. Jim served as commander and was also very active in the Submarine Veterans of WWII. Jim was recognized by the Navy as the oldest submarine veteran in the state of Tennessee. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf until his health prevented him from participat­ing. He loved constructi­on and would often just visit constructi­on sites to just simply watch.

Left behind to cherish Jim’s memory are his two children, James (Pam) Hulsey Jr., Ooltewah, Tenn., and Darleen Hulsey, Signal Mountain, Tenn.; grandchild­ren, James (Shauna) Hulsey III, Citrus Springs, Fla., Destiny (Kale) Martin and Brittany Hulsey, both of Asheville, N.C.; great-granddaugh­ter, Kiera Hulsey, Citrus Springs, Fla.; stepchildr­en, Hall Reynolds, Chattanoog­a, Tenn., and Ellen (Jim) McClure, Ringgold, Ga.

A Celebratio­n of Jim’s Life will be held graveside at the Chattanoog­a National Cemetery on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Margaret Ferguson officiatin­g. He will be laid to rest with full military honors.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to his caregivers, Jennifer Longwith and Deva Holdson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributi­on be made in Jim’s memory to either Signal Mountain Presbyteri­an Church or to Hospice of Chattanoog­a.

Arrangemen­ts are under the care of Chattanoog­a Funeral Home Crematory and Florist East Chapel, 404 S. Moore Rd. East Ridge, TN 37412.
