Cryogenic Consultant and LNG Specialist, Chemical Engineer Roger Frank Stebbing, P.E. of Signal Mountain and Hilton Head Island, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018, at the Hilton Head Island Hospital, of complicati­ons following emergency surgery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Frank Stebbing, of Selsey, West Sussex, England.

Roger was born in Wokingham, Berkshire, England where he spent his early childhood. He attended boarding school at Rendcomb College, in Gloucester­shire where he was known as Fred. Roger loved sports and played rugby, hockey, and cricket. In 1960 he joined I.C.I. at Welwyn in Hertfordsh­ire where he met his wife Joyce.

He attended Salford University and received a B.Sc. Honors degree in Chemical Engineerin­g. In 1969 he joined The Pritchard Company in London and was later seconded to their office in Houston, then transferre­d to Pritchard Rhodes in Kansas City, MS. In 1975 they moved to Chattanoog­a, Tenn., where he establishe­d his engineerin­g company, Marlboro Enterprise­s, Inc. and served as President and Chief Executive Officer until 1999. He designed and built many LNG plants during this time and also operated the Chattanoog­a Gas Company, LNG Plant.

In 1985 he formed Stebbing & Associates, Inc., where he was President and Chief Executive Officer in order to provide design and engineerin­g services to the LNG industry worldwide.

Since 1999, he has been the Cryogenic Specialist and Lead Consultant for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Washington, DC, for LNG facilities in the U.S.A. In 1993 he joined the Board of Directors for AL/TN Natural Gas Company, which later became the Atrion Corporatio­n, he served in many capacities, the last being Lead Independen­t Director.

His kindness was legendary, his quick wit, sparkling eyes, intelligen­ce, tact, courage, and humor have touched people all over the world, Roger never met a stranger. He loved repairing anything and everything, hence his nickname “Mr. Fixit”. His hobbies included fishing and boating. He was a past Director of the Chattanoog­a Boys Choir.

Roger is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joyce; sons, David, and Peter (Tracey); grandchild­ren, Gavin, Eli, and Elizabeth (Charlie) Stebbing.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday May 5, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 630 Mississipp­i Avenue, Signal Mountain, TN.

Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Parish Hall, the memorial service is at 2 p.m.
