On the morning of Dec. 28, 2017, Dr. Robert Knox Fanning “Bob”, a faithful husband, loving grandfathe­r, brother, accomplish­ed physician, and great friend passed to his heavenly reward with his Savior Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Knox and Hazel Fanning; stepmother, Martha O’Kelley Fanning, and son, Rob.

Survivors include his loving wife, Dr. Etta Fanning; sister, Wanda Fanning; daughter, Alissa Fanning Millsap; stepchildr­en, Rodney and Elizabeth Bobbitt; Randy Bobbitt and Beatriz Romero; grandchild­ren, Lauren, Trent and Victor; in-laws, Charlene and James Garlitz; Nancy and Edward Ogden, Janis and Michael Polcyn; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved pets, Lenny and Prissy.

Dr. Fanning was a product of the Chattanoog­a schools system. He attended City High and the University of Chattanoog­a where he graduated in 1965. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After being commission­ed in the U.S. Army Dr. Fanning, served in Germany and returned to Tennessee where he received his medical degree from the University Of Tennessee College Of Medicine. He then moved to Texas to complete his internship and residency at Brooke Army Hospital. Dr. Fanning remained in Texas after leaving the military. Dr. Fanning had been a member of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio. His interests included gospel music, history, travel and University of Tennessee Football.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018, from noon to 2 p.m. at Chattanoog­a Funeral Home, North Chapel.

A memorial service will follow immediatel­y after at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sally Ensley officiatin­g. Interment will be held at Forest Hills Cemetery.
