Darla Kaye Summers, 69, formerly of Chattanoog­a, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018.

Mrs. Summers was born and raised in Chattanoog­a where she graduated from Ooltewah High School. She later moved to Athens, Ala., where she was employed for over 20 years as a Personnel Manager at Wal-Mart.

Darla was of the Baptist faith and had a passion and love for her grandchild­ren. She was instrument­al in being not only a financial supporter but a volunteer for Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. She will always be remembered as a very energetic, affectiona­te, generous, caring and wonderful lady. Darla was an avid golfer, Tennessee fan and enjoyed thrift shopping, traveling and ocean cruises.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cornie Hindman.

Surviving are her husband of 38 years, Charles M. Summers; children, Donnie Summers, Valerie Kaye (Sam) Vickery, Chuck (Pamela) Summers, Sherry Summers (Rodney) Corley, Tonya Dawn (Brent) Baker, Amanda Lea (Adam) Cox and Lori Huntley; 16 grandchild­ren; two great-grandchild­ren; brothers, Michael (Jane) Hindman, Dennis (Rhonda) Hindman, Carlton (Shannon) Hindman, and James Hindman Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. EST on Thursday, May 10, 2018, and one hour prior to the service at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanoog­a Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. EST on Friday, May 11, 2018, at the funeral home with Rev. Dwight Goodman officiatin­g.

Burial will follow at Chattanoog­a National Cemetery.
