DC Blox raises $37M for the expansion of Edge data centers

After expanding to Chattanooga with a data center just off of Main Street last year, the Atlanta- based DC Blox secured another $37 million in new equity and debt funding this week to add three more such data centers in the Southeast as it expands its cloud-based data storage.
Jeff Uphues, the CEO of DC Blox, said the extra funding is part of $53 million the company has raised to build Tier 3 data centers in underserved markets in the Southeastern United States. DC Blox already uses high- speed optical networks and its data centers in Atlanta, Chattanooga and Huntsville, Ala., to host cloud services.
DC Blox plans to use the proceeds of the new funding from Metropolitan Partners Group to build additional data centers in Birmingham, Ala., Greensboro/Winston-Salem, N.C., and Greenville, S.C.
“This latest round of funding reflects the confidence our investors have in our strategy to deploy Edge data centers in underserved markets that support the needs of enterprise businesses, government entities, content providers and managed service providers in the Southeastern United States,” Uphues said. “With our core leadership team now in place, we are well on our way to meeting an aggressive expansion plan through 2019.”
The Atlanta and Chattanooga data centers are an effective disaster recovery pair, he said. With more than 100 miles between them, they meet a best practice for geographic diversity for potential natural disasters – if something happens in one location, the data is secure in a backup location.

Each data center is interconnected with DC Blox’s high- speed, fiber-optic network, which enables a variety of use cases, including business continuity, disaster recovery, content delivery, IoT and mobile applications.
