Weather, ceremonies shaking up sectional schedules

- STAFF REPORTS

The TSSAA plans for its Division I softball and baseball state sectionals to be played today. But extenuating circumstances have caused some things to change in the Chattanooga area, and the potential for rainy weather could cause further changes.

Meigs County’s Class AA Lady Tigers have scheduled their softball game against Sequatchie County for Sunday at 3 p.m. Meigs coach Jeff Davis reported to the Times Free Press that Sequatchie’s graduation ceremony is today and Meigs is having its graduation Saturday.

The only softball sectional scheduled locally today was at Sale Creek, where the Class A Lady Panthers were set to host the loser of Thursday’s game between North Greene and Unaka at 7 p.m. But the North Greene- Unaka game was rained out and rescheduled for today, meaning Sale Creek’s sectional will likely be played instead at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a 70 percent chance of precipitation today, dropping to a 40 percent chance at night. Showers are expected to be widespread and sporadic.

Class A South Pittsburg and Class AAA Walker Valley have road softball games scheduled today. The Lady Pirates are scheduled to play Cascade at 7 p.m. EDT, and the Lady Mustangs are slated to take on Coffee County at 8 EDT.

Lincoln County is matched up against host Ooltewah in a Class AAA softball sectional that is set for Saturday afternoon at 1 because Lincoln County has graduation today. Another sectional scheduled Saturday is in Class A, where Whitwell will be hosting Moore County at 6 EDT.

Most of the baseball sectionals involving area teams are scheduled today. The only announcement to the Times Free Press of a change from today was by Lookout Valley coach Lance Rorex, who reported that the Class A Yellow Jackets now plan to host University High at noon Saturday.

Today’s scheduled baseball sectionals in the area include the area matchup of Grundy County at Signal Mountain in Class AA at 6 EDT. Stewarts Creek is at Bradley Central in Class AAA and Eagleville is at South Pittsburg in Class A in games scheduled at 7 EDT.

One Division II state quarterfinal, which is a best-of-three series, also is scheduled today with McCallie at Montgomery Bell Academy for a doubleheader set to start at 4 EDT.
