Wheeler in ninth midway through

Jacob Wheeler of Harrison finished the second day of the Bassmaster Elite tournament on Lake Oahe in South Dakota in ninth place with 30 pounds, 14 ounces of smallmouth bass. He weighed 14-2 on Saturday. The event ends Monday and Mark Daniels Jr. of Tuskegee, Alabama, took a pound-and-a-half midpoint lead with 39-0. The top 50 hit the lake again today. Spring City’s John Murray and Wesley Strader wound up 76th and 92nd with 15-2 and 12-5.

› University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a men’s golf coach Mark Guhne of Hixson finished 26th in the co-angler division of the FLW Tour event on Lake St. Clair in Michigan with a two-day total of 34-14. Dayton’s

Michael Neal led area pros in the tournament with a 31st-place 39 pounds, missing Saturday’s semifinal round by one spot, and stands 14th in the season point standings.

Dylan Hays of Sheridan, Arkansas, led the 10 finalists going out today with 72-3, while previous leader Chad Grigsby of Minnesota was at 71-4 and Brad Knight of Lancing, Tennessee (in Morgan County) was third at 70-6.

RUNNING

› The Feeding the Future 5k race Saturday in Chattanoog­a had a three-K set of top finishers, as Francis Kamini won in 15 minutes, 47 seconds with Fred Kosgei a close second in 15:50 and Will Kirkikis third in 16:42. Kamini is 31 years old, Kosgei 42 and Kirkikis 28. Ryan Shrum, 50, was fourth in 17:56 with Mark Malecky fifth in 18:20 and women’s winner Taylor Parkes sixth in 19:48. Sydney Cansler, 17, and Stacey Malecky were the second and third females and 14th and 16th overall.
