Lookouts’ skid over

- STAFF REPORT

The Chattanooga Lookouts started a five-game home series against the Montgomery Biscuits by ending a four-game losing streak, winning for just the sixth time in the season’s second half.

They sure made it interesting, though.

Up six runs after three innings, the Lookouts let the Biscuits work their way back before holding on to win 7-6 in front of 2,663 on Thursday night at AT&T Field.

Chattanooga used six pitchers, with Paco Rodriguez (3-0) getting the win after throwing back-to-back scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh and Cody Stashak recording the final out for his first save of the season. Stashak induced a game-ending groundout after giving up a bases-loaded threerun double to Michael Brousseau, the first batter he faced.

Down 7-3 entering the ninth, Montgomery got a leadoff single from Jake Cronenworth and a one-out single from Nick Solak to bring Peter Maris III to the plate. Ryne Harper struck out Maris, but the pitch was wild and Maris made it to first to load the bases and chase Harper.

The Lookouts took a 7-1 lead in the third, when Zander Wiel drew a one-out walk, Jaylin Davis followed with a single and Ryan Walker homered to right field with two outs.

Chattanooga scored four runs in the first, when Wiel drew a bases-loaded walk, Davis drove in Brent Rooker with a sacrifice fly, Brian Navaretto singled to bring in Andy Wilkins and Wiel went home on Walker’s groundout.

The Lookouts had just five hits in the game but walked seven times while improving to 6-15 in the season’s second half and 42-48 this year.

Game two of the series is tonight at 7:15, with the scheduled starting pitchers Benton Moss (1-3, 4.98) for the Biscuits and Omar Bencomo (5-3, 3.16) for the Lookouts.
