Fuji Hixson is roomy and stylish, with great acoustics to boot. On a weekday afternoon, the space felt laid-back and serene, despite more than a dozen diners enjoying a late lunch.
A couple waited for their to-go order at the bar running the length of the front wall. Sushi-lovers savored their rolls from a smattering of four-top tables, separated from the lively hibachi grill section by an airy, lattice-like divider wall.
Among its various dining areas, there are a number of ways to enjoy Fuji Hixson, beginning with different deals offered throughout the week. The bar, for instance, features drink specials all day, every day. Large hot sake is available for $4, and a 12-ounce “Fuji brew” (Rolling Rock) is $1.50. Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, all Fuji Hixson’s sushi rolls are 50 percent off, excluding sashimi and nigiri. And hibachi entrees are currently buy one, get one half price any day of the week.
“People think that hibachi has to be sitting at the table watching the show,” said owner LC Lin, but it can also be a great take-out option, he added.
Although, those who choose to carry out should be warned they’ll be missing out on not just the ambiance but Fuji Hixson’s famous hibachi chef.
“Chef Shamu is a comedy show,” said LC. “He makes people laugh. Some people call and ask if he’s working before they come in.”
But whether diners come for the drink deals, the sushi, the hibachi or the laughs, they are sure to find themselves comfortable and satiated in a relaxing space.
