Jury finds suspect in 2016 double homicide guilty
A 34-year-old man accused of double homicide at a 2016 house party was sentenced to life in prison late Saturday night.
Jurors found Stephen Mobley guilty on all counts, said Melydia Clewell, spokeswoman for Hamilton County District Attorney General Neal Pinkston.
Prosecutors have said Mobley opened fire inside a home on Pinewood Drive on Sept. 5, 2016, after Jasmine Hines and another woman got sick during a night of partying.
Mobley’s charges include two counts of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm and aggravated assault charges in the deaths of Hines, 22, and Rashaud Taylor, 23.
Judge Barry Steelman told Mobley that, according to state law, the verdict reached would sentence him to life in prison, according to WRCB-TV News Channel 3 footage from the courtroom.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23, Clewell said.
“We recognize what a serious obligation of time it is for citizens to be called to jury duty, particularly for those selected to be sequestered for a trial of this magnitude,” Clewell said. “We’re sincerely thankful to these jurors for their significant time commitment and their diligence which ensured a just outcome in this case.”
Mobley’s attorney did not return a request for comment Monday evening.
