CELEBRATING OUR NATION’S LOG HOME HERITAGE

- Jay Bell

From the simple, utilitarian log cabins of frontier lore to modern luxury living, log homes have been part of the Tennessee Valley landscape for over two centuries. Today, there are some who have decided to live full-time in one of these unique homes and still more who are building or renovating log homes for personal vacation homes or for rental properties.

There are several reasons why home buyers are still attracted to this traditional type of home building. Particularly in our mountainous region, log homes fit well into their natural and neighborhood surroundings, offering timeless style and eye-catching design. They’re also strong, energy efficient and affordable. And today’s log homes include the latest amenities and options to fit your lifestyle, including open floor plans, multimedia rooms, master suites, garages and more.

Planning and building a log home is a unique opportunity to create your dream home or the perfect vacation spot, but it’s always important to do your research first. The Log and Timber Homes Council (LTHC) of the National Association of Home Builders is a great place to start. All LTHC members follow specific standards and a uniform code of ethics, and each member stays abreast of new technology with the end goal of ensuring customer satisfaction and a quality product.

LTHC members celebrate log homes during National Log Home Open House Month in July, by hosting factory tours, log raising demonstrations and additional events geared towards consumers. This is a great opportunity to see first-hand all of the benefits of log homes and if log home living is right for you.

Visit loghomes.org to learn about local events in this area during the monthlong open house.

You’ll also find a wealth of resources through to help you learn more about log home living. When you’re ready to build, renovate or upgrade your log home, visit the Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga online membership directory at www.HBAGC.net
