Lookouts top Braves 6-1 at home
Call it a super save. Tyler Wells pitched four scoreless innings in relief in his first appearance for Class AA Chattanooga, finishing what Dietrich Enns started as the Lookouts beat the Mississippi Braves 6-1 Friday night in front of 4,318 at AT&T Field.
Wells, who went 8-4 with a 2.80 ERA in 16 games (all starts) for the Fort Myers Miracle of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League, was called up Tuesday. The Lookouts were rained out both that day and Wednesday in Kodak, Tennessee, but returned home and routed Mississippi in Thursday’s series opener.
Wells allowed no hits, walked two batters and struck out seven Friday to earn his first save of the season and his professional career, which began in 2016.
Enns (1-5), who struck out four, allowed a walk and five hits, including Ray-Patrick Didder’s two-out single that allowed Daniel Lockhart to score from first base in the fifth.
The Lookouts were solid at the plate for the second straight night, leading 5-0 after three innings.
Tanner English had a two-out double in the second inning to drive in Jaylin Davis, who had a leadoff single, and Jordan Gore, who walked with two outs. In the third, Luke Raley homered to right field after Brent Rooker’s leadoff walk, Chris Paul followed Raley with a single and David doubled to bring Paul in.
In the seventh, Raley had a leadoff walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and completed the scoring on a one-out single by Davis.
The Lookouts take a three-game winning streak overall into the third game of the five-game series at AT&T. Tonight’s first pitch is set for 7:15, and the scheduled starters are Mississippi’s Enderson Franco (4-7, 3.56) and Chattanooga’s Omar Bencomo (6-5, 3.90).
