› Heat relief: The Salvation Army is seeking donations to help low-income families battle the summer heat. Monetary gifts for box fans and utility bill assistance should be marked “Beat the Heat” and mailed to 822 McCallie Ave., Chattanoog­a, TN 37403 or 437 Inman St., Cleveland, TN 37311. The Chattanoog­a location offers a hydration station with free water at 800 McCallie Ave., between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. every day that the temperatur­e exceeds 90 degrees. › Free family movies: Bridge Christian Church will present its seventh annual family movie series, Movies in the Park at Dark, in Heritage Park, 1428 Jenkins Road. Friday features an animated film based on the Lego Batman toy line. Sept. 21 features a musical inspired by the story of P.T. Barnum’s creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Both films begin at 7:30 p.m. (canceled in inclement weather). Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase. Bring your own blankets and chairs for seating.

› Zen Group’s new location: The Zen Group of Chattanoog­a meets 2-4 p.m. Sundays at a new location, 335 Crestway Drive (the Chattanoog­a Friends Meeting). The group offers zazen (Zen sitting meditation), kinhin (walking meditation) and newcomer instructio­n. No experience is necessary and no fee is required for attendance, although donations are welcome. The Sunday schedule offers three 25-minute periods of zazen, two five-minute periods of kinhin and book study of “Enlightenm­ent Unfolds: Essential Teachings of Zen Master Dogen,” edited by Kazuaki Tanashi.
