Titans sign pair of safeties

-

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans added a pair of safeties to replace Johnathan Cyprien.

Neither is named Eric Reid.

The Titans announced Saturday morning they had agreed to terms with Jason Thompson and Kenny Vaccaro as they try to make up for the loss of Cyprien, who tore his left ACL on Wednesday and was placed on injured reserve Friday.

Earlier in the week, a source familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that Reid was coming to Nashville to work out for the Titans. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team does not announce which players are working out in such situations.

Reid has been unsigned since March, when his rookie contract with the San Francisco 49ers expired. He filed a claim this spring after visiting with the Cincinnati Bengals, arguing he was unsigned as a result of collusion by NFL owners due to his protests of police brutality and racial inequality by kneeling during the national anthem.

The 6-foot, 214-pound Vaccaro spent the past five years with the New Orleans Saints, starting 67 games with eight interceptions, 7.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. The Saints drafted the former University of Texas standout 15th overall in the 2013 draft.

Thompson (6-2, 208) has spent time with the New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys since coming into the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Utah in 2017.
