Southern Lit Alliance welcomes the author to the South Bound lecture series on Sunday.

The Southern Lit Alliance will welcome author Christopher Swann to the South Bound lecture series Sunday. Swann will offer a reading and discussion of his award-winning debut novel, “Shadow of the Lions,” starting at 2 p.m., ending with a book signing. The event will take place in the Arts Building on East 11th Street.

Released in August 2017, “Shadow of the Lions” explores the dark heart of privilege, secrets and lies at an elite boys boarding school in Virginia. Swann, an alumnus of a boarding school and now a teacher at a private day school, brings an insider’s knowledge of the world he creates here.

The novel has earned multiple awards, including being named one of Publishers Weekly’s Best Summer Books and Southern Living’s Best Southern Books in 2017. This year, the novel was named to the Southern Book Prize Long List and was a Townsend Prize for Fiction finalist, and Swann was a Georgia Author of the Year nominee.

Swann is a graduate of Woodberry Forest

School in Virginia. He earned a B.A. in English from Washington and Lee University, an M.A. in English and creative writing from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a Ph.D in creative writing from Georgia State University. He lives with his wife and two sons in Atlanta, where he is chairman of the English department at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School.
