SATURDAY’S STAR

Georgia junior receiver Mecole Hardman is quickly becoming one of the most exciting players in college football, and he is certainly among the fastest. TURNING POINT

South Carolina pulled within 17-10 on a Parker White field goal and got the ball back with a chance to tie the game by halftime, but an 18-yard punt by Joseph Charlton enabled Georgia to take over at its 33 with 43 seconds left. The Bulldogs drove for a 44-yard Rodrigo Blankenship field goal and a 20-10 lead at the horn.

HIGHLIGHT PLAY

South Carolina had its first possession near midfield when disaster struck in the form of a Jake Bentley pass sailing off the fingers of running back Rico Dowdle and into the arms of Deandre Baker, who raced down the sideline before dropping the ball at the 1. Linebacker Juwan Taylor picked up the ball and got the score.

WHAT IT MEANS

Georgia dominated the SEC’s Eastern Division last season like never before, and the Bulldogs sent an impressive message in this year’s league opener. A 21-0 surge in the third quarter put them up 41-10 against a team they subdued 24-10 last November. The 2-0 Bulldogs await Middle Tennessee this week.
