John (Mike) Arms

John Dillard (Mike) Arms, 91, earned his heavenly wings on Sept. 18, 2018.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1927, to the late Robert and Ola Arms of Apison, TN.

He was preceded in death by sister’s Evelyn Nunley of Apison, TN, Alene Vaughn of Chattanoog­a, TN, and his brother Leslie Arms of Lake Mary, FL.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine Arms, daughters Tresea (John) Eib of Soddy Daisy, TN and Gaye Hudson of Harrison, TN. Grandchild­ren, John (Tina) Arms of Soddy Daisy, TN, Craig (Billie) Rogers of Soddy Daisy, TN and Ronald (Amy) Alford of Hixson, TN, Kami (Lee) McCabe of Maryland, Brian Hudson of Chattanoog­a, TN and many more great grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews.

John served in the Merchant Marines during World War ll and the U. S. Army Field Artillery during the Korean War. He was a participan­t in the Atomic Bomb Testing. He was a member of the Tri State Merchant Marines, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 159 and the National Associatio­n of Atomic Veterans. He was also a participan­t in the WRCB TV’s “Veteran Project” and was nominated for Veteran of the Year. John worked in the automotive business for 42 years. After retirement he was employed by Killian Florist for 13 years. He was a member of Central Baptist/Abba’s House Church in Hixson, TN. He enjoyed being outdoors, watching his Atlanta Braves baseball and going to the beach. But his favorite thing to do was spending time with family! He was lovingly known as “Papaw” to everyone he met!

The family would especially like to thank the staff at Brookdale of Hixson and Soddy Daisy Healthcare Center for their love, care and support over the past many years.

A celebratio­n of John’s life will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Chattanoog­a National Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
