Sibley Bryce Evans Jr., 70, a long time resident of Signal Mountain, TN., passed away Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018.

He was the son of the late Sibley B. Evans Sr. and Martha Dillard Evans of Chattanoog­a. Raised on The Baylor School campus, Mr. Evans attended Normal Park Elementary and graduated from The Baylor School with the Class of 1965. He graduated from The University of Chattanoog­a with a degree in Biology/Chemistry and was commission­ed an officer in the United States Army. He was an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Sib served his country as a member of the 101st Airborn Mobile Division where he was awarded the Distinguis­hed Flying Cross. Upon returning to Chattanoog­a, Sib taught Biology at The Baylor School where he coached the varsity soccer team to a state victory and assisted in coaching the football team to a national title. Sib was a retired Senior Fraud Investigat­or with Unum, Provident, and later Ameritas Insurance companies. Sib served his community by playing a vital role with Walden’s Ridge Emergency Service as Captain. In 1995, he gained responsibi­lity as a firefighte­r and a first responder in 1996. He later assisted in the foundation of their ropes rescue division as a rope rescue technician in 1997. He was awarded volunteer of the year in 1996 as well as 2001. An avid horse enthusiast, Sib will be missed on the trail.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alice Wagner Evans; children Bryce (Betsy) Evans, Kelly (Paul) Thompson, and Emory Evans all of Chattanoog­a, and three grandchild­ren; sister Mary Lou Stanford (Chad) and brother Dillard (Christy) Evans.

A visitation will be held at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will be held immediatel­y after at 11:30 a.m. followed by a committal service at Chattanoog­a National Cemetery.
