Tuesday is your deadline to register to vote Nov. 6

- BY TYLER JETT STAFF WRITER

If they haven’t done so already, Tennessee and Georgia residents have two more days to register to vote.

Items on the ballot in the Nov. 6 election are some of the most hotly contested races in the country, including Georgia’s governor’s race and the fight to replace Sen. Bob Corker in Tennessee. In Walker County, Georgia, after years of arguments, residents will decide whether to move from a sole commissioner form of government to a board of elected officials.

The deadline to register is Tuesday. Residents can fill out the proper forms online, mail them in, or register in person.

ONLINE REGISTRATION

In Tennessee, residents can register at GoVoteTN.com. Registrants must have information such as their address and Social Security number handy. Hamilton County residents can register at hamiltonelections.com.

In Georgia, residents can register online at registertovote. sos.ga.gov. They also will have to provide identification information to be registered.

Walker County Supervisor of Elections Danielle Montgomery said new registrants should be in the system within two days of registering. They can verify their registration went through properly at mvp. sos.ga.gov.

Even though it takes a couple of days to process an application, Montgomery said people still can register through Tuesday night.

MAIL-IN REGISTRATION

Tennessee residents can mail their registrations in to their local elections office. In Hamilton County, the address is 700 River Terminal Road in Chattanooga. In Bradley County, the address is 155 Broad St. NW in Cleveland.

People can pick up the form to register at the local library or post office, as well as some

county or city buildings.

In Georgia, people can print off a mail-in application at the secretary of state’s website: sos.ga.gov. They can also find the applications at local libraries or other government buildings. Among other information, the application will ask for a driver’s license number or the last four digits of the applicant’s Social Security number.

People can mail the application to their local elections office, as long as it is postmarked by Tuesday. In Walker County, the elections office is located at 103 S Duke St. in LaFayette. In Catoosa County, the elections office is located at 5238 Evitt St. in Ringgold. In Whitfield County, the elections office is located at 205 N Selvidge S., Suite K, in Dalton.

IN-PERSON REGISTRATION

Residents also can show up to their local elections office in person to fill out the paperwork to register.
