BULLDOGS GAME IN BITS & PIECES
SATURDAY’S STAR
Georgia sophomore quarterback Jake Fromm continued his impressive accuracy, completing 17 of 23 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. Fromm entered the game ranked sixth nationally in passing efficiency (186.1) and produced a rating of 217.8 against the Commodores.
SATURDAY’S STAT
Redshirt junior kicker Rodrigo Blankenship set a Georgia record by making his 120th straight extra point following a 35-yard touchdown pass from Fromm to D’Andre Swift at the 11:45 mark of the third quarter. Blankenship, who broke Blair Walsh’s 2008-10 record of 119, never has missed a college PAT.
TURNING POINT
With 2:18 remaining in the first half, Vanderbilt used a second Ryley Guay field goal to pull within 14-6 and was outgaining the Bulldogs. They left Fromm with way too much time: He went 5-of-6 on the ensuing possession and connected with Riley Ridley for a 10-yard score with 1:14 remaining.
HIGHLIGHT PLAY
Georgia needed just 15 seconds to erase its first deficit of the year, getting a 75-yard touchdown pass from Fromm to Terry Godwin to take a 7-3 lead at the 10:15 mark of the first quarter. Godwin shook off tackle attempts by Joejuan Williams and Donovan Sheffield inside the Vanderbilt 10-yard line.
WHAT IT MEANS
The No. 2 Bulldogs improved to 6-0 and attained bowl eligibility for the 22nd consecutive season, the longest such streak in the Southeastern Conference. It will not, however, be a top-five showdown this week in Baton Rouge, however, after No. 5 LSU fell Saturday at No. 22 Florida 27-19 to drop to 5-1.
