MOCS GAME IN BITS & PIECES
SATURDAY’S STAR
Wofford quarterback Joe Newman ran for 155 yards and completed eight of his nine throws for 69 yards. He had two rushing scores, including a back-breaking 66-yarder in the fourth quarter with the Terriers up 14-10 at the time.
SATURDAY’S STAT
After a first quarter in which they had 108 yards of total offense, the Mocs netted 86 yards on 30 plays in the final three quarters of the game.
TURNING POINT
The Mocs had just gained their first takeaway on a Marshall Cooper-caused fumble recovered by D.J. Jackson, but the offense went three-and-out, and on Wofford’s next play from scrimmage, Newman ran 66 yards untouched for the score.
HIGHLIGHT PLAY
This also was Newman’s long scoring run because of the timing of it. UTC had held Wofford scoreless the two prior quarters, and while the TD didn’t put the game out of reach, it put the Mocs in a hole they weren’t able to overcome.
WHAT IT MEANS
The Mocs have hit a rough patch. They’re struggling to run the ball, and it’s taken away their downfield passing game. But at 4-2, they’re where most people probably had them at this point, and if they win at Western Carolina and are 5-2 going into a bye, they’ll be in good shape.
