Chattanooga Dances

Six dance companies partner in one performance tonight

- STAFF REPORT

Members of six local dance companies are combining their talent into one showcase to be held tonight, Oct. 18, at Center for Creative Arts magnet school, 1301 Dallas Road.

The 18th annual Chattanooga Dances concert highlights the city’s nonprofit dance organizations along with schools that maintain a full dance curriculum. Companies appearing in tonight’s performance will be Ballet Tennessee, Barger Academy’s Movement Makers, Baylor School’s Verve, Center for Creative Arts’ Project Motion, Chattanooga Ballet and Girls Preparatory School’s Terpsichord.

The program includes a variety of dance genres presented by professional and student choreographers. Audience members get to experience a taste of what each organization has to offer in this rare performance collaboration.

Karen Wilson, director of dance at Center for Creative Arts, sees the concert as an important partnership between Chattanooga’s public and private schools as well as the community’s diverse dance organizations.

“Kudos to CCA’s Chattanooga Dances concert for bringing our dance community together annually to celebrate our unity of passion for dance and our diversity of artistry,” says Andrew Parker, Chattanooga Ballet artistic director.

“Chattanooga Dances is the premier regional concert for nonprofit performing dance organizations and schools. It provides an exciting artistic cross-pollination for dancers/choreographers of all ages,” says Cathie Kasch, director of dance at GPS.

Tickets will be available at the door. For more information: 423498-7365.
