Jesus won greatest battle ever fought

Q: I worked for an institute that studies battles and wars and learned that some believe World War II was the most costly war. Isn’t the greatest cost measured by the men and women who die in service to their country? — W.S.
A: Wars have raged throughout history. A dollar amount cannot begin to match the loss of human life. The greatest battle ever fought, however, was between good and evil. This great battle took place at Golgotha — also known as Mount Calvary — a rugged hill outside the walled city of Jerusalem. Jesus Christ was victor, paying the cost with His blood. The reward was the salvation of human souls.
What did Jesus see from the cross? Mockers. His penetrating eyes looked into eyes blinded to the truth. He saw the religious leaders gaping at Him as they read the title nailed above His head, with the charge against Him: “This is
Jesus the King of the Jews.” This was written in Hebrew so the religious would understand. It was written in Greek so the cultured could understand. It was written in Latin so world government could understand. Intended to mock Jesus, the sign actually proclaimed the greatest truth: Jesus died for ALL.
The message of the cross is for everyone. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:17). The cross shows the seriousness of our sin and the battle for truth. It also proclaims the love of God. Jesus says to the human race, “I will meet you at only one place, and that’s the cross — the place of victory.” The Bible says Jesus came to “seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).
