Eslinger leading Nov. 5 parent seminar for FCA

Former University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a wrestling coach Heath Eslinger will lead a parent seminar presented by the Chattanoog­a Fellowship of Christian Athletes on Monday, Nov. 5, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Silverdale Baptist Church’s Creekside venue at 7218 Bonny Oaks Drive. The seminar is called “Putting Sport in Its Proper Perspectiv­e: Creating Boundaries,” and boundaries specifical­ly mentioned in the FCA announceme­nt release are “financial, family and faith.” The cost is $10 per person, and that includes dinner provided by Chick-fil-A of Ooltewah. › The Lee University men’s soccer team ended its regular season Wednesday night with a 2-1 home loss to Tusculum in an NCAA Division II nonconfere­nce game.

Ivan Andabak scored the deciding goal with 57 seconds left in regulation when his 20-yard free kick slipped through the keeper’s hands and into the net. Shawn Foster scored earlier in the second half in a corner-kick situation for the Pioneers (8-6-1), after Samaan Williams scored for Lee (8-6-3) on a rebound of Matt Chartier’s shot at 36:34. The Flames will begin play this weekend in the Gulf South Conference tournament, but matchups are not yet set.

› Covenant College rolled to a 3-0 home win over Agnes Scott in a USA South women’s soccer tournament opener Wednesday and will play in a quarterfin­al Saturday at 2 p.m. at East Division No. 2 seed Salem. Abby Ackerson made 19 saves for the 4-11-2 visitors, but Grace Herring got a shot past her from an

Addy Cronan pass in the 18th minute and Cronan and Kyra Duble scored in the second half. Paige Simons assisted on Duble’s goal for the Lady Scots (10-7-1), who had margins of 32-2 in shots and 22-1 in shots on goal and got a one-save shutout from Rachel Lemay.

GOLF

› Led by medalist Sport Allmond with a 2-under par 214 for 54 holes, the Dalton State men’s golf team won the Truett McConnell Fall Preview on Monday and Tuesday at Barnsley Gardens in Adairsvill­e, Georgia. Allmond won by four strokes, and the Roadrunner­s totaled 885 for a 10-point margin over runner-up Point. Tennessee Wesleyan was fifth at 913, and Georgia Northweste­rn was 10th at 961 with Bryan College 11th at 989. DSC’s Ben Rebne and Wesleyan’s Tanner Harris tied for fourth individual­ly at 221, and DSC’s Zach Womack shared ninth at 224 while teammates Eli Hendricks and Jack Clark finished 19th and tied for 20th at 229 and 231. TWU’s Simon Nagy closed with a 70 and tied for 16th at 228, Jeovani Veloz shot 231 and Trent Mansfield tied for 30th at 235. For GNTC, Ryan Redd tied for 33rd at 236 and Cole Roberts shot 238, as did Bryan’s Gareth Moody. Dawson Day from Trion led fourth-place host TMU on Monday at 151 but was injured and could not play Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL

› Cleveland State won the final home match of its volleyball season Wednesday — 3-0 over Hiwassee by the set scores of 25-13, 25-19, 25-17 — and is 12-13. The Lady Cougars will play Friday at 6 p.m. at Chattanoog­a State in a TCCAA/NJCAA regional playoff.

› With 43 assists and 15 digs from Cleveland High School graduate Kellee Geren, Milligan won 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 25-16) in Appalachia­n Athletic Conference volleyball Tuesday at Tennessee Wesleyan. For TWU (14-17, 10-8), Marjorie Smith had 12 kills and Avery Hilliard and Sydney Ritten added 10 and nine, while Kalyse Garrett and Tia Madden contribute­d 17 and 16 assists and Madison Weir had 18 digs. Sovanna Ramirez and Garrett had 14 and 10 digs. North Division leader Milligan is 21-4, 14-2.
