Jennifer Daniels celebrates 20 years

- BY BARRY COURTER STAFF WRITER

A week after celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary, Jeff Neal and Jennifer Daniels will celebrate two decades of making music together.

The two have always worked under the name Jennifer Daniels, “though I have tried to convince him to do co-billing for years,” she says. The Jennifer Daniels 20th Anniversary Show is Friday night at Songbirds North.

The two have been touring and performing regularly over the last two decades, though things took a turn a little more than nine years ago when Daniels became pregnant. Things became even more complicated when she gave birth to twin girls.

“We had to learn to tour with babies,” says Neal.

Neal laughs at the idea of stocking up the beer coolers in the Green Rooms of places they played with breast milk.

“It was pretty crazy.”

As the girls have grown, the two found themselves writing songs for children, and today do almost as many shows in classrooms and kids camps as they do adult shows. They do a pretty heavy metal version of “Simon Says,” for example.

“It’s not something we ever planned or imagined, but it has been fun,” Daniels says.

The show Friday night is designed as a “date night show for adults,” and they will do a collection of material from their 20-year catalog, but Daniels says they will do a kid’s song if people ask.
