‘SINGING ZONE’

SCENIC CITY CHORUS’ ANNUAL SHOW SATURDAY

- STAFF REPORT

For more than 50 years, Scenic City Chorus has entertained audiences with a cappella harmony, putting a contemporary spin on songs ranging from pop to inspirational numbers and old standards.

That will be the case Saturday afternoon, Nov. 3, when the singers invite audiences to join them for “The Singing Zone,” their spin on “The Twilight Zone” TV theme.

“‘The Singing Zone’ is an opportunity for you to enjoy our chorus of 70 members singing 10 new songs,” says Ray Ann Kurtz, show chairwoman. “We will be singing songs such as an Andrew Sisters medley, ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ and ‘Good Night, Sweetheart.’”

In addition to performances by the award-winning chorus, guest quartet The Buzz will sing.

The Buzz is made up of four females who got together for the first time in January 2003. They instantly bonded over the “buzz” of the harmony created by their voices, according to their website, and the buzz they got from just being together.

They won Region 9’s Quartet Contest in April 2004, and six months later won the 2005 Sweet Adelines International Quartet Championship.

In 15 years together, they have traveled across the U.S. and to six other countries, entertaining thousands of audience members. They have also been guest educators in over half of the existing Sweet Adeline regions.

Kurtz says the 2018 International Rising Star Winners, Hot Pursuit, will also perform during the program.

Scenic City Chorus has grown from a small ensemble to a large chorus over its 56 years. Its current director is Jennifer Cooke, voted Coach of the Year for Region 4 in 2017 and given the title Master Director. Scenic City Chorus received the title of Master Singers.
