Lee University Marks Centennial

Homecoming celebratio­n begins tonight

Thousands of Lee University students, alumni, faculty and staff are expected on campus for this weekend’s homecoming and Centennial Celebratio­n. A wide range of events have been scheduled to celebrate and commemorat­e the Cleveland, Tennessee, school’s history and legacy. “In a manner of speaking, we’ve waited 100 years for this weekend,” said Jerome Hammond, vice president for university relations. “If alumni and friends have needed an excuse to get back to campus, this is a great one.”

Child care will be available for events on Friday evening and throughout the day Saturday for a one-time, $20 fee per family.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FRIDAY, NOV. 2

8 a.m.-6 p.m. Check-in at the Science and Math Complex. Alumni will receive homecoming T-shirts while supplies last.

9 a.m. Centennial seminars in various locations throughout campus. Faculty, alumni and special guests share their experience­s on a variety of topics, ranging from missions to profession­al acting and politics to technology innovation.

10:30 a.m. The Centennial Service of Celebratio­n in Conn Center, 150 11th St. Noon. Celebratio­n lunch on the Pedestrian Mall.

7:30 p.m. Three entertainm­ent options: “Music Makers: 100 Years of Music” in Pangle Hall; the premiere of the Centennial Documentar­y in Dixon Center; “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” in Buzz Oates Black Box Theater, located in the Communicat­ion Arts Building. All three are ticketed events. The latter two will recur throughout the weekend.

9 p.m. Party at the Forum on the South Quad Lawn.

“This will be a fun way to end a very full day,” says Dr. Paul Conn, Lee president. “It’s going to be so special — alums, students, VIPs, faculty and staff, all hanging out together with a big surprise to end the night.”

SATURDAY, NOV. 3

8 a.m.–2 p.m. Check-in at the Science and Math Complex. 9 a.m. Department breakfasts, with each breakfast featuring a keynote speech from a distinguis­hed alum.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. Centennial Walk, historic campus tour that recurs every 30 minutes. 10 a.m. Athletic alumni reception in Walker Arena lobby and front lawn.

11 a.m. The traditiona­l Flame Walk and tailgating party on the Pedestrian Mall. Noon. Lady Flames vs. Faulkner University.

1 p.m. School of Business 20th reunion.

2 p.m. Lee Flames vs. Piedmont College; presentati­on of homecoming court and homecoming queen at halftime.

4 p.m. Campus Choir 60th anniversar­y reunion concert in Pangle Hall, 340 Church St. 7:30 p.m. Life at Lee with performanc­es by alumni Clark Beckham and Brooke Simpson.

SUNDAY, NOV. 4
