Businesses and residents in the East Chattanooga community are partnering for the third Glass Street Live block party on Saturday, Nov. 3. The family-friendly festival is held outdoors at the intersection of Dodson Avenue and Glass Street.

Teal Thibaud of sponsoring Glass House Collective says the purpose of the event is to bring together residents with artists, local businesses and volunteers in creative projects to reimagine the neighborhood.

For example, at this weekend’s festival Glass House Collective will be doing a demonstration of what the Dodson-Glass intersection would look like if it had a median to slow down traffic.

“We’ve been trying to recruit funding to improve the streetscape at that intersection” says Thibaud. “We’ll get feedback from residents.”

Throughout the day there will be activities such as a bounce house, life-size Jenga, life-size chess, a wrestling ring with matches on the hour, hockey demonstration, pop-up skate park, make-yourown T-shirt and information from nonprofits about their programs.

There will be food trucks as well as food from neighborhood businesses.

And, of course, music to keep the party going.

“From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. we have Gospel on Glass, sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission. Gospel music will be led by a resident named Deborah Bledsoe. Her group is 2Deep Within. They will perform along with The Robinsons3D, World Church of the Living God mass choir and some others,” says Thibaud.

C-Grimey takes the stage at 2 p.m. and will be followed by acts Kay B Brown, Different Diva, YKC Nation and dancer Skream until 5 p.m.

“We are also going to have a youth dance-off, which was very popular last year, and some UTC sororities and fraternities are participating in a step show,” she says.
