Dreaming of a ‘White Christmas’?

Then check out the musical at the Tivoli this weekend

- STAFF REPORT

Some of the greatest Broadway songs ever written will be performed Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10-11, when the national tour of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” stops in the Tivoli Theatre.

Based on the Paramount Pictures film, the musical features music and lyrics by Berlin with book by David Ives and Paul Blake.

The perennial Christmas favorite is the story of Bob Wallace and Phil Davis (who were played by Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, respectively, in the movie), who have become a famous songand-dance team after serving in World War II together.

They meet sisters Betty and Judy Haynes at a club where the Haynes sisters are performing and end up heading to Vermont with the girls, where they are booked to perform at an inn.

Upon reaching the inn, the guys are surprised to find their former commander, Maj. Gen. Thomas Waverly, is its operator. But the inn is failing because there is no snow, so the four decide to put on a show to bring in some business. Naturally, romance soon ensues.

“White Christmas” is a heartwarming musical that’s filled with singing, dancing and unforgettable songs such as “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing,” “Sisters,” “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep” and, of course, the title song.
