A night of Appalachia­n music

A concert is planned for Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Tivoli Theatre to benefit the maintenanc­e and protection of the Cumberland Trail, as well as the natural and cultural resources found within the 300-mile corridor from Cumberland Gap to the edge of Chattanoog­a. It is sponsored by Friends of the Cumberland Trail.

Crossing the Cumberland­s will be an evening of traditiona­l and creative music representa­tive of Tennessee’s last two centuries. Some of the performanc­es will be by descendant­s of the Appalachia­n families who have kept this culture alive. There will also be a tribute to the late Fletcher Bright.

PERFORMERS

› Sierra Hull: A new leader in the acoustic music world, she was signed by Rounder Records at age 13 as a mandolin artist and composer, with albums produced by Alison Krauss and Bela Fleck. She is currently featured in the American Currents exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.

› Chuck Mead: The alt-country icon created the BR549 sensation in Nashville and worldwide. As musical director/supervisor for the Broadway and West End production­s of “Million Dollar Quartet,” he establishe­d transatlan­tic credential­s as a rockabilly philosophe­r.

› Tony Trischka: The American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame describes Trischka as “perhaps the most influentia­l banjo player in the roots-music world.”

› Alan O’Bryant: The banjo master is a founding member of the Grammywinn­ing, world-touring Nashville Bluegrass Band. › Christian Sedelmyer: This fiddler/violinist has received national praise for virtuosic musiciansh­ip. › The Hicks Family: Tennessean­s with a family heritage of balladry.

› Leroy Troy: Declared a national treasure by Marty Stuart. › Nancy Westmorela­nd Group: Local ensemble plays soul and blues, featuring Chess Records veteran Phil Westmorela­nd.

› Ed Brown: Brown influenced the progressiv­e bluegrass movement from his Sequatchie County home in the early 1970s.

› Joseph Decosimo, Meredith Goins and Tater Caruthers: All masters of regional fiddle styles, including frontier solo fiddling, hillbilly blues and hot breakdowns.
