Aaron Tan opens season of St. Paul’s Artist Series
Organ virtuoso Aaron Tan will launch the 2018-19 season of the St. Paul’s Artist Series at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church when he performs on St. Paul’s Casavant organ Friday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m.
Tan won first-place and the audience prize in the 2018 American Guild of Organists National Young Artist Competition in Organ Performance in July. He will play a selection of music by Bach, Bolcom, Duruflé, Franck, Schumann and Vierne in Friday’s concert.
“The first half explores organ music originating from the Romantic and early modern era, particularly works of the French tradition,” Tan says of his program.
“The second half explores organ music based on American idioms like the Afro-American spiritual, gospel hymnody and American popular music. The entire concert is bookended by movements from two of Vierne’s great organ symphonies.”
