Tennessee State defeats UT-Martin in OT

NASHVILLE — Cameron Rosendahl passed for 170 yards and three touchdowns in his first college start, delivering the 4-yard game-winning pass to DeVon Johnson in the back of the end zone in overtime Saturday as Tennessee State defeated the University of Tennessee at Martin 31-28.

Antonio Zita kicked three field goals for the Tigers (4-5, 3-4 Ohio Valley Conference), and Johnson caught six passes for 97 yards and three scores.

UT-Martin’s defense forced the Tigers to a three-and-out series with 46 seconds left in regulation, and John Bachus found Devonte Howard for a 43-yard score that tied the game with 10 seconds left. Bachus passed for 236 yards and three touchdowns.

The Skyhawks (2-9, 2-6) scored first in overtime, but they were held to a Ryan Courtright field goal after Tennessee State’s defense stalled their drive at the 3. The loss was UT-Martin’s fifth this season of seven or fewer points.

› Austin Peay 48, Murray State 23 CLARKSVILL­E, Tenn. — Jeremiah Oatsvall threw four touchdown passes as Austin Peay ended its season with a home win.

Oatsvall was 15-of-23 for 193 yards with no intercepti­ons, throwing for two touchdowns apiece to DeAngelo Wilson and D.J. Montgomery. Kentel Williams added 118 rushing yards and a score for the Governors (5-6, 3-5 OVC), who rushed for 254 of their 447 offensive yards.

Murray State (5-6, 5-3) scored on Malik Honeycutt’s 80-yard punt return to get within five points of the Governors early in the fourth quarter before Austin Peay pulled away. › Eastern Kentucky 37, Tennessee Tech 6 COOKEVILLE, Tenn. — Parker McKinney passed for 333 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another, and the Colonels rolled to finish the regular season with four straight wins.

McKinney was 31-of-42 passing, B.K. Smith had 12 catches for 163 yards, T.J. Comstock capped the scoring by returning an intercepti­on for a touchdown and the Eastern Kentucky defense kept the Golden Eagles out of the end zone.

The Colonels (7-4) and Tennessee Tech (1-10) traded field goals to open the scoring, and McKinney’s 3-yard keeper broke the tie with 1:01 left in the half. Golden Eagles quarterbac­k Adam Browner fumbled on the next play, and Samuel Hayworth added another field goal for the Colonels before halftime.

McKinney threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Daryl McCleskey Jr. on Eastern Kentucky’s first drive of the third quarter and tossed an 11-yarder to Dan Paul for a four-touchdown edge with 2:55 left in the game.

DALLAS — Patrick Taylor Jr. ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns as the Tigers picked up an American Athletic Conference win late Friday night.

Brady White’s 16-yard touchdown pass to Joey Magnifico and Riley Patterson’s extra-point kick with 9:26 before halftime put Memphis ahead 7-3, and the Tigers (7-4, 4-3) never surrendere­d their lead. SMU (5-6, 4-3) cut the Tigers’ edge to 14-12 with 1:22 left in the third quarter, but that was as close as it got.

White finished 18-for-31 passing for 226 yards with two touchdowns and two intercepti­ons, and Memphis won its fifth straight in the series.
