Holiday open house
Event is last on Lee Highway as Reflections Gallery preps for move
An open house Thursday at Reflections Gallery will give the resident artists a chance to say hello to the holidays and goodbye to the gallery.
“Yes, we are moving after being here for more than 30 years on Lee Highway,” confirms Summer Harrison, manager and studio director. “We’re taking a leap and moving to a location near Main Street on Rossville Avenue.”
Gallery officials expect to begin the move to Chattanooga’s Southside in early January, be ready for business by the middle of the month and officially introduce the new space with a grand-opening celebration in February.
“We’re so excited about the move,” Harrison says. “It’s an artsy area with a lot of energy. … Lee Highway is more of a commuter road where people don’t really linger. We wanted to be in a place where people strolled around and enjoyed their surroundings and could find us a little bit easier.”
The square footage is about the same as the current gallery, according to Harrison, but the new space at 1635 Rossville Ave. offers the added benefits of an outdoor courtyard and green space behind the building.
“It’s got wonderful tall ceilings with lots of lighting and a studio space for our stained-glass studio,” says Harrison.
Until the move, the current space on Lee Highway will be buzzing with Christmas activity. Seventeen artists will have some 300 works on display at the open house, and eight artists will give presentations or demonstrations during the evening.
Their mediums include oils, acrylics, watercolors, photography, clay, porcelain art, wood, encaustics, metals and mixed media. Several artists will be offering seasonal specials on unframed pieces, small works and prints. Visitors also may find holiday gift inspiration on the gallery’s ever popular “Under $100” wall.
The open house is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Reflections Gallery is at 6922 Lee Highway, about a block north of Shallowford Road. Free parking is available in front of and beside the gallery on Robinson Drive.
