Mocs golfers fourth in Florida

The University of Tennessee at Chattanoog­a men’s golf team turned in the low round on the final day of the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate tournament Tuesday in Palm City, Florida, with a 9-under-par 279. The Mocs’ 863 for 54 holes earned them a fourth-place finish. Host UNC Greensboro won the 13-team event with an 850 total, followed by Mercer (856) and James Madison (859). Freshmen Dominic Jones and

Leon Bader led the Mocs’ Tuesday performanc­e with rounds of 67 and 69, and Oliver Simonsen tied for ninth overall with a three-round total of 1-under 215. Bader shared 14th at 216 and Connor Nolan tied for 24th at 219. UNCG’s Nick Lyerly was the medalist with a 207.

› Led by freshman Crawford Collett in a tie for 17th at 150, the Covenant men finished eighth out of 14 teams in the Coastal Georgia Winter Invitation­al at Brunswick. The Scots shot 613 for 36 holes with a 154 from Josh Wall, a 155 from Nathan Hawkins and 157s from Will DeMerssema­n and

Marshall Kent. Coastal Georgia, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, won with a 580.

BASKETBALL

› The two longest active winning streaks in Appalachia­n Athletic Conference women’s basketball went head to head Tuesday in Dayton, and the longest one got longer. League champion Bryan College (26-1, 24-0) won for the 25th straight time, 70-60 over visiting Tennessee Wesleyan (18-8, 16-8), which had won nine in a row coming in. Then the Bryan men (14-13, 11-10) extended the Bulldogs’ losing streak to 15 games. For the Lady Lions, ranked 13th in NAIA Division II, To’Nesha Allison scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and Tristan McClellan had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Shayla Ludy added 11 points. Jacobi Lynn and Gina Dick had 15 and 14 points and Kenzie Conn scored 11 for TWU. EJ Bush had 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots in the fifthplace Lions’ win, Brandon Thomas and

Noah Mulaski adding 12 and 11 points, while Joshua Chairs and Jaylin Brown scored 12 and 10 for the Athens team (8-18, 4-16). Chairs was 4-of-7 on 3-point shots.

› Georgia Northweste­rn’s Bobcats got 18 points apiece from Jeremy Wilson and

Jayce Harris, plus 11 rebounds from the latter, but lost 82-69 to the Dalton State club team — filling in for scheduled opponent Georgia Gwinnett. Nick Banks and

Mon’Darius Black scored 16 each and Briqarius James and Da’vae Hughley each added 14 for the visitors. Hughley also hauled in 10 rebounds.

LACROSSE

› The Tennessee Wesleyan men’s lacrosse team lost 15-8 in its season opener Tuesday against visiting SCAD Savannah, which is ranked sixth in the NAIA. Roderick Williams had four goals and two assists and Ian Gonzalez scored twice in less than two minutes and added an assist for TWU.
