JCC OBSERVES HOLIDAYS WITH GUEST ARTISTS

- STAFF REPORT

Internationally known artists Andrew Lustig and Eleanor Tallie Steinberg will perform at the Jewish Cultural Center, 5461 North Terrace, to commemorate and celebrate two Israeli holidays.

The days are observed one after another to emphasize the principle that life in Israel would not be possible without sacrifice, according to a JCC news release.

Yom Hazikaron, Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism, will take place on Wednesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. This event will feature lyrics and songs by Israel’s fallen soldiers and a spoken word performance by Andrew Lustig.

Lustig’s poetry has reached millions through viral videos and hundreds of live performances. He has delivered keynote addresses for organizations throughout the United States and in Israel. He was a 2013-14 Dorot Fellow in Israel.

From 2013-2017, Lustig worked as an artist-inresidence at the Brandeis Collegiate Institute in Los Angeles. He is co-founder of the Muslim Jewish Interfaith Coalition and a 2019 facilitation trainee with Resetting the Table.

The audience is asked to wear white to Yom Hazikaron. There is no cost to attend this event.

Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israeli Independence Day, will be celebrated Thursday, May 9, with a 6 p.m. dinner and live performances from Lustig and community members sharing their experiences of Israel. The dinner will feature Israeli music performed by Steinberg.

Born and raised in Israel, Steinberg is a songwriter, performer, recording artist and multiinstrumentalist. Steinberg showcases her musical abilities while fusing the two sides of her Jewish identity (Ashkenazi and Sephardic) into one unforgettable experience.

The cost to attend is $12 per person. The event is suitable for ages 13 years and older.
