Walker Rocks Outdoor Series kicks off Saturday

Looking for a staycation this Memorial Day weekend? A short day-trip that feels like a getaway, but doesn’t really get away from town?

The new Walker Rocks Outdoor series could offer the solution with its kickoff event: a family camp out at Mountain Cove Farms, 994 Dougherty Gap Road in Chickamauga, Georgia.

Walker Rocks Outdoor Series has planned six summer events filled with camping, hiking, fishing and watersports with some music, movies and good eats mixed in. The new series will make some of Walker County’s leading outdoor attractions more accessible to the general public.

So load up your vehicle and head to Mountain Cove on Saturday, May 25, for two days of campground music, field-day-style games, a family night movie and making s’mores around a campfire.

Admission is $5 per vehicle in advance, $10 at the gate (cash only). Setup begins Saturday at 2 p.m. for tent campers.

After an afternoon of old-fashioned fun like sack races, three-legged races and kickball, “Goonies” will be shown at 8 p.m. in the Show Barn. Guests are encouraged to bring their guitars and banjos for pickin’ around the campsite.

Food will be available for purchase; proceeds will benefit the Family Crisis Center.

Breakdown is from 7 to 9 a.m. Sunday, May 26.

“This is a family-friendly event that offers an opportunity for parents with young children to try out camping and see what it’s like to sleep outdoors,” said Lacey Wilson, Walker County Chamber president. “We also see this as a staycation of sorts for folks looking for something unique to do with their family over the holiday weekend.”
