Family Magic Night Saturday

- STAFF REPORT

Want to make your worries disappear?

Check out the Chattanooga Magic Club’s entertaining program on Saturday night, May 25, when members present their 14th annual Family Magic Night. The program is also a celebration of the local club’s 100th anniversary as a continuously meeting organization.

Award-winning illusionist Michael Frisbee, who has more than 30 years of magic experience, will headline the show. Another featured performer will be Mike Edwards, a Las Vegas-trained magician who is known locally for his balloon work. Visitors to Saturday’s show may recognize Edwards from his appearances at Chattanooga Market and West Village parties.

“Mike has trained under several big names in magic in Las Vegas,” says Patrick Goldberg, club president. “Keep a close eye on him because you never know what he may do next.”

Goldberg has his own segment in the program as his alter ego: Capt. Jack Heart, a pirate illusionist. His show will include “pirate magic,” he says, such as coin tricks and a robot parrot trick.

And it’s not a magic show until someone gets levitated. Watch for that in the finale!

Limited VIP seating is available for $25. The VIP package includes early entry for a 6 p.m. show of close-up magic by the magicians.

Doors open to the public at 6:30, when club members will also walk around the audience showing sleight-of-hand tricks before the show begins at 7 p.m.

“This is our annual fundraiser for the Magic Club. It’s an opportunity for people to become acquainted with the club,” says Goldberg.

“We know there are a lot of teenagers getting interested in magic because of YouYube, and we are trying to get them into the club. One of our big hurdles has been getting awareness out that we are a monthly-meeting club that is open to adults, children, teenagers, those who perform magic and those who are just interested in it.”
