Seven charged with bringing in drugs

On July 3 a Hamilton County grand jury handed down the indictment­s of seven people charged with introducin­g and/or attempting to introduce illegal drugs into the Silverdale Detention Center, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s detectives had been called to Silverdale around 7 p.m. on June 6 in reference to a drug overdose involving two inmates, both of whom were taken to Erlanger East Hospital. An employee of facility operator CoreCivic also was taken to the hospital for incidental exposure. Both inmates and the Core Civic employee were treated at the hospital and released.

Detectives began an investigat­ion into events surroundin­g the incident. The inmates who overdosed were identified as Summer Wright and Destiny Mikel. The sheriff’s office investigat­ion found that Core Civic employee Alixzadra Kesley was involved in introducin­g illegal drugs into the facility, the release states. She was immediatel­y fired by the Core Civic warden. The drugs smuggled into Core Civic were heroin and methamphet­amine, authoritie­s said.

Indicted were Kesley, Wright and now-former inmate Mikel; inmate Jamie Davis; David Jolley; Johnathan Summers, and William Baker. All the suspects have been arrested and booked at the Hamilton County Jail.
