Henderson hired as Lookout Valley baseball coach
Jason Henderson is coming back home.
The 2005 Lookout Valley graduate, who had been Red Bank’s high school baseball coach the past three seasons, is taking over the same job at his alma mater.
“As soon as this job opened up, I knew I was interested,” said Henderson, who began his career as an assistant at Lookout Valley for five seasons. “I’ve tried to get this job before, but it’s a very competitive job because a lot of people want to be here. That’s because the tradition and community support make it special, and that’s what has me excited to get the chance to come back here.
“It’s an opportunity to come back to my home school, a place where I feel very comfortable, and I’m looking forward to getting to lead this program.”
Henderson takes over for Lance Rorex, who stepped down two weeks ago to take over the Silverdale Baptist Academy baseball program. In five seasons, Rorex led the Yellow Jackets to 101 wins, two district championships and a region title.
“We’re really fortunate that we have an opportunity to hire somebody with head coaching experience, who’s familiar with our school and understands the tradition and legacy and pride that goes along with this program,” said school principal Todd Stinson. “A lot of things fell into place for us to be able to hire Jason.
“He builds strong relationships with students inside and outside of the classroom and is a perfect fit for what we’re trying to build as far as our school culture and our baseball program moving forward.”
