Lookouts’ skid now 12 games
The Chattanooga Lookouts’ losing streak reached a dirty dozen Friday night.
The Lookouts dropped their 12th in a row and did so by 12 runs, with the Jackonsville Jumbo Shrimp’s 15-3 win at AT&T Field extending a skid that started with a loss to the Jackson Generals on July 5.
Jacksonville piled up 19 hits, with left fielder Stone Garrett going 5-for-6 with a home run, a double, four runs driven in and four scored.
Chattanooga trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, when Stuart Fairchild and Tyler Stephenson led off with back-to-back singles before scoring on Calten Daal’s double. Brantley Bell followed with another double, but Daal didn’t advance beyond third and the rally stopped there.
Jacksonville scored eight runs in the sixth, when it sent 13 batters to the plate, including eight before the Lookouts recorded an out. Chattanooga got its final run in the bottom of the inning, when Mitch Nay hit a leadoff double, then advanced and scored on consecutive groundouts.
The Jumbo Shrimp have outscored the Lookouts 23-5 in the first two contests of a four-game series that continues tonight at 7:15. The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a bobblehead of former Lookouts player Edgar Martinez, who spent 18 seasons in the majors with the Seattle Mariners and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Sunday in Cooperstown, New York.
Jacksonville’s scheduled starting pitcher is Edward Cabrera, who is 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA in three appearances with the Jumbo Shrimp. He went 5-3 with a 2.02 ERA this season with the Jupiter Hammerheads of the High-A Florida State League.
The Lookouts have not announced their starter.
