Trammell traded during Lookouts’ 6-5 victory

The Chattanooga Lookouts won just their fourth game in their last 25 Tuesday night with a late rally that produced a 6-5 victory over Tennessee at AT&T Field.

While the rare win, secured in large part by Tyler Stephenson’s two-run homer in a four-run eighth inning, was encouraging for Lookouts fans, they had to say goodbye to outfielder Taylor Trammell.

Trammell, the parent Cincinnati Reds’ No. 1-ranked prospect according to MLB.com, was part of a three-team trade announced late in Tuesday’s game. He will join San Diego’s organization, with the Reds getting Cleveland ace Trevor Bauer. It was also reported that Chattanooga pitcher Scott Moss, No. 12 on the Reds’ prospect list, was included in the deal.

Part of the Indians’ haul includes Cincinnati (and former Lookouts) outfielder Yasiel Puig.

The Lookouts (11-27 in the Southern League’s second half) broke a fivegame losing streak after losing the first three games to the Smokies (13-26). They trailed 3-2 entering the eighth inning when Alfredo Rodriguez greeted Tennessee reliever Oscar De La Cruz with a leadoff double.

Stuart Fairchild tied the game with a one-out double, Gavin LaValley singled and Jonathan India put the Lookouts ahead with a sacrifice fly. Stephenson followed with his fifth homer to make it a three-run game.

The extra runs would prove beneficial in the ninth when the Smokies got within a run against closer Juan Martinez on Jared Young’s two-out, two-run homer. Martinez walked Zach Davis before securing his seventh save by fanning Christian Donahue.

Stephenson, Rodriguez and Fairchild had two hits each for the Lookouts. Ryan Nutof (2-0) earned the pitching win with a scoreless inning in relief of starter Tony Santillan, who went five innings and gave up six hits and three runs while walking six.

The series concludes tonight at 7:15 with Chattanooga pitcher Ryan Lillie going against Tennessee’s Erick Leal.
