Airport District Plan, Neighboroots on agenda
After several weeks of contentious votes, the Chattanooga City Council will have a somewhat light voting meeting Tuesday, preceded by special presentations on the city’s Airport District Plan and Neighboroots project.
› At noon, District 5 Councilman Russell Gilbert and District 6 Councilwoman Carol Berz will host an Airport District Plan briefing in the conference room of the City Council Building. The presentation likely will address progress on the pending master plan for development and infrastructure around the airport as the city and Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport continue to grow.
The council will meet at 1:30 p.m. for the strategic planning meeting, 3 p.m. for the agenda meeting and 6 p.m. for the regular voting meeting. All three council meetings are in the City Council Building at 1000 Lindsay St.
› At the same time, Mayor Andy Berke and District 8 Councilman Anthony Byrd will host an event to introduce the city’s new Neighboroots project. The initiative is designed to showcase Chattanooga neighborhoods’ diverse history and will be held at the Carver Youth and Family Development Center.
According to a release from the city, members of the public are invited to submit ideas for public art projects, performances, and historical markers that celebrate the people, places, and moments that define our city. Applicants will be evaluated by a committee of local neighborhood leaders and historians, and winners will receive funding from the city to implement their project. Food will be provided and city staff will be on-site to answer any questions about the program.
