New season of Sunday Afternoon at Simpson

The Martin family — Jim Martin, Pauline Martin and Bobby Martin Howell — will kick off the new season of Sunday Afternoon at Simpson on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 3 p.m.

The free concert series is hosted by Simpson United Methodist Church, 601 McFarland Ave. in Rossville. The concerts feature local and regional artists in instrument­al or vocal performanc­es.

Jim Martin, a graduate of the University of Chattanoog­a, is former organist at First Cumberland Presbyteri­an and Rivermont Presbyteri­an churches.

He is currently an accompanis­t for the Scenic City Chorale and plays handbells with the Metropolit­an Bells of Chattanoog­a. He has appeared in production­s with The Backstage Theatre, Chattanoog­a Theatre Centre and Chattanoog­a Symphony & Opera Associatio­n.

Pauline Martin received a degree in music education from the University of Chattanoog­a and a Master of Education degree from Trevecca College. She was an educator for many years and currently plays with the MidSouth Symphonic Band.

Bobbie Howell received a degree in English from Tennessee Wesleyan College, where she was a member of the TWC choir and performed in several plays and musicals in addition to a summer production of the Stephen Foster story in Bardstown, Kentucky. She has been seen in production­s at the Backstage Theatre, Chattanoog­a Theatre Centre and with the CSOA.

All three are members of First-Centenary United Methodist Church choir and MacDowell Music Club.

Accompanyi­ng them will be David Friberg and Megan Herndon.
