Cumberland County Playhouse opens ‘Clue’
The classic Hasbro board game “Clue” comes to life when Cumberland County Playhouse opens its next production on Friday, March 6.
Every day will become “a dark and stormy night” as the Playhouse presents this murderously funny mystery that will leave audiences breathless from laughter and suspense as they try to figure out just “whodunit.”
Six guests, a butler and a maid assemble for a dinner party at the home of Mr. Boddy. But when the host turns up dead, it is clear that no one is safe. Soon guests are racing to find the killer to keep the body count from rising.
“When I first heard that a new stage version of ‘Clue’ was in the works, I knew it would be a perfect fit for our Playhouse audiences,” said Producing Director Bryce McDonald, who directs this production. “I’ve seen the movie at least a dozen times – and who didn’t play the board game growing up?”
All of the game’s familiar characters are here: Wadsworth the butler (Jason Ross), Yvette the maid (DeAnna Etchison), Col. Mustard (Britt Hancock), Mrs. White (Hannah Hays), Mr. Green (Cory Clark), Miss Scarlet (Weslie Webster) and Professor Plum (Grayson Yockey).
Clue also features award-winning Tennessee actress Martha Wilkinson as Mrs. Peacock. She is a nine-time recipient of the Nashville First Night Award for excellence in musical theater. She was voted Best Local Actor in the Tennessean’s 2009 “Toast of Music City.” She last appeared on the Playhouse stage in 1989.
Rounding out the cast are Daniel Black and Jensen Crain-Foster, each of whom plays multiple roles.
So, was it Colonel Mustard in the library with the wrench or Miss Scarlet in the dining room with the lead pipe? The possibilities are endless and audiences have until April 16 to find out.
