Authorities in Grundy County, Tennessee, arrested three people and seized cash, weapons, suspected methamphetamine and more than 100 pills allegedly laced with the powerful drug fentanyl while executing two separate search warrants in what the sheriff said is an ongoing investigation into recent drug overdoses that have left three people dead.

Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum said in a statement released early Friday that he “could not confirm or deny” a link between the seizures and the deaths, although the arrests occurred during the ongoing probe.

Officers serving a search warrant overnight Thursday into Friday at a home on White City Circle in Tracy City reportedly found an estimated 4 ounces of suspected crystal methamphetamine and arrested 42-yearold Wendell Stanley Nunley, according to the statement from Shrum.

“The search warrant was a direct result of the ongoing investigation into the recent overdoses resulting in three deaths,” Shrum said. The sheriff said Nunley “has an extensive criminal history including past state and federal drug convictions dating back to 1998.”

Nunley is charged with two counts of manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of methamphetamine and is being held at the Grundy County Detention Center. A bond hearing is pending, according to the statement.

In another operation May 12, Rick Adam Dickinson,

35, and Rachel Gwen Rollins, 28, both of Monteagle, were arrested after officers served a search warrant at a home on Tootley Campbell Road in Monteagle and allegedly located methamphetamine and at least 100 pills Shrum said were allegedly laced with fentanyl, according to the statement. The pills were made to look like the legal prescription medication Roxicet.

Dickinson and Rollins are each charged with possession of a Schedule I drug, possession of a Schedule II drug, manufacture, sale and delivery of a controlled substance and manufacture, sale and delivery of methamphetamine, officials said. Dickinson is also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon.

Rollins is set to appear in court on June 11, while Dickinson is scheduled for an appearance June 16.
