Patricia Myhan

-

Patricia June Thomas Myhan, 86, passed away peacefully July 16, 2020 at Morning Pointe, East Hamilton.

She had been a resident of the Shallowford Road Morning Pointe from 2017 until the April tornado. She was a faithful member of Concord Baptist Church for many years.

Pat grew up in Chattanooga and, at one point, aspired to be an FBI agent. She wrote a letter to them asking how to apply, unbeknownst to her mother. When a letter came for her a few weeks later from the FBI office, her mother was quite worried when she checked the mail. (Unfortunately, the FBI did not hire women at the time.) She moved to Carrollton, GA, as a teen where she graduated from high school. She received an associates degree from West Georgia College in business and worked for South Central Bell in Atlanta and was then transferred to the Chattanooga office. She married Herb Myhan in 1959 and became a pastor’s wife. She later worked for Southern Bell and then her daughters enjoyed helping her prepare for a job as a customer service rep at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Tennessee, quizzing her nightly on medical terms and disease names. (She aced all her tests every time!) She retired from there in 1994.

She was one tough cookie, surviving gall bladder removal, her husband’s Alzheimer’s disease, colon cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, several falls and broken bones and a tornado.

She was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 51 years, Rev. Herb Myhan and her parents, Howard and Ruth Thomas. She is survived by her two girls, Susan (Jay) Clark of LaFayette, GA and Becky (Mark) Gallant of Chattanooga, three granddaughters, Anna, Katie and Hope Traffanstedt, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The girls would like to thank the wonderful caregivers she has had over the past few years at Hickory Valley Retirement Center and at both Morning Pointe facilities.

The family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 pm on Monday, July 20th at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. The funeral service will follow at 12 pm in the funeral home chapel with interment in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Southeast Tennessee Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.chattanooganorthchapel.com
