SOUTH PITTSBURG Thomas Jefferson Landers Jr., 87, passed away at home on Wednesday July 15, 2020 surrounded by family after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Tom was born in South Pittsburg TN and graduated from South Pittsburg High School in 1952. He served his country in the US Army for two years during the Korean conflict era. He retired from AT&T after 39 years. After retirement, Tom served his community as the City Administra­tor of South Pittsburg. He was on the Board of Directors for Marion Natural Gas Co., and held multiple positions in the Lion’s Club and was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church and served in many church positions and sang in the choir. He loved his community and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Jefferson Landers Sr. and Tressie Newson Landers, Bobby Gene Landers Sr. and Hazel Marie Landers (brother and sister-inlaw).

He is survived by his wife Virginia May Landers; daughters Carol Phyfe (Terry Phyfe), Vicki Whitson (Wade Whitson); son Phillip Landers ( Beverly Landers); 7 grandchild­ren; 6 great grandchild­ren; step daughters Gwen Murray (Barry Murray), Angie Kirkland (Barry Shrader); 4 step grandchild­ren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday July 19, 2020 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m. in the Rogers Funeral Home South Pittsburg Chapel with Reverend Logan Jackson officiatin­g.
