With preseason camp approaching, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football program has added defensive back D.J. Brown, a graduate transfer from Penn State.

The addition has not been announced by UTC, but Brown is listed as No. 6 on the Mocs’ summer prospectus, which was released Wednesday.

Brown, who is eligible immediately and will have two seasons remaining, played in seven games in 2019, totaling five tackles, one pass deflection and a forced fumble. He will compete for time in a secondary that returns all four starters: senior safeties Brandon Dowdell and Jerrell Lawson, senior cornerback Jordan Jones and junior cornerback CaMiron Smith.

The Fairburn, Georgia, native was a consensus three-star prospect coming out of high school, choosing the Big Ten’s Nittany Lions over offers from 30 other programs, including 15 in Power Five conferences.

Brown is the second former Power Five and Big Ten player to transfer to UTC this recruiting cycle. Former McCallie standout Giovanni Reviere, a defensive lineman who started all 13 games for Purdue in 2018, signed in December.

In addition, former Rhode Island defensive lineman Tez Wilson, listed as Montez Wilson on the roster, has also transferred after a productive career with the Rams. He will wear No. 41.

The Mocs must replace two starters from their 2019 defensive line: end Khayyan Edwards and tackle Telvin Jones.
