Juanita Cowley

Juanita “Tootsie” Cowley, 91, of Hixson, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 29, 2020.

She had a long and happy life and will be greatly missed by her family. Tootsie was born in 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. She resided in North Chattanoog­a for most of her life and graduated from Red Bank High School. In the late 1940s, she began working at Miller Brothers department store as a salesperso­n, buyer, and a model. Tootsie loved her job and won many sales awards at yearly convention­s during her career. She continued in this capacity at Proffitt’s and Belk department stores until she decided to retire at 80 years old. Tootsie was happiest when she was spending time with her family and working alongside her husband and siblings on rental properties. Throughout her life she was devoted to her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Drew Cowley, her parents, Edgar and Lillian King, sister, Maxine Dodd, and sister-inlaw, Sandra King.

She is survived by brothers, John Jesse and Bill King (Ann Eidson), many nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchild­ren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Manor House Assisted Living & Memory Care for the kindness shown to Tootsie and the excellent care she received while living there. Due to the implicatio­ns of the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a private graveside service.

Kenneth Fears

Kenneth Lebron Fears “Dirt”, 64, formerly of Chattanoog­a, passed away Monday, June 15, 2020 in Milpitas, California. He was a 1973 graduate of Riverside High School.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Fears, Sr.; and brothers, Michael Fears and Joe Fears, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Mary Jane Fears; mother, Mary C. Benion of Chattanoog­a; sons, Kenneth Fears and Kameron Fears, both of California, and Carnell (Stannie) Penn of Jacksonvil­le, FL; daughter, Shaquanda (James) McCallie of Chattanoog­a; brothers, Darrell (Florie) Fears of California and Derek Armour of Chattanoog­a; sisters, Anita Fears, Barbara Dave, and Linda (Robert) Bailey, all of Chattanoog­a; very dear friend, Bernard Jones; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Henry McClain.

Judson Jamieson

Judson Burns Jamieson, 84, of Ooltewah, TN, died Saturday, July 25, 2020 in Erlanger Hospital’s ER.

Judson was born Sept 4, 1935, in Camden, Maine. He was the son of Everett & Viola (Baston) Jamieson, & upon Viola’s death his stepmother Margaret Donnelly Jamieson. Judson attended school at Union Springs Academy in NY, and received a college degree from E. Los Angeles College. He also served our country in the Army at Fort Eustis in VA. On Oct 6, 1957 he married Gwendolyn G. Joy at the Seventh-day Adventist church in Lincolnvil­le, ME. Judson worked for the So. New England & So. California Seventh-day Adventist Conference­s for 20+ years. His career included moving SDA families & as Dept Head of Respirator­y Therapy at New England Memorial Hospital. He married Donna Farley Toppenberg in Cleveland, TN on Aug 5, 2007, after the passing of Gwen.

Survivors include his wife Donna Jamieson; two Daughters & husbands: Tamela & Tarrant Cutler, Orleans, MA; Lisa & David Hunzelman. Stoneham, MA. Two beloved Granddaugh­ters: Sabrina Hunzelman & fiancé Oscar Guzman, Murrieta, CA; Jessica & Brian Burgin, Riverside, CA. His Great Granddaugh­ter born April 12, 2020: Ava Grace Burgin, who he was planning to meet at Sabrina & Oscar’s Nov. wedding.

Judson was preceded in death by his wife Gwendolyn Jamieson; Sister Mildred Swanson; 4 Brothers: Lloyd Jamieson, Lee Jamieson, John Donnelly and Carroll Jamieson.

Memorial Service is August 8, 2020 – visitation 3:30 pm & service 4 pm at the Ooltewah Adventist Church 9209 Amos Rd Ooltewah TN. The service will be streamed on the Ooltewah Adventist Church YouTube Channel.

Scott Jewell

Scott Jewell, age 54, of Chattanoog­a, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Scott was born in Painsville, Ohio and has been a longtime resident of the Chattanoog­a area.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparen­ts, Hellen and Howard Jewell; uncles, Sam Jewell and Ronnie Jewell.

Scott is survived by his wife, Angel Jewell; children, Madison and Clay Jewell; parents, Rosalie and Starlin Pickett; brother, Barry Pritt; aunt/uncle, Karen and Vernon Jewell; aunt, Christine Jewell.

A Memorial service will be held at 12 pm (noon) on Saturday, August 1 at the North Chapel of Chattanoog­a Funeral Home.

Donald Keen

Donald Ray Keen, 87, of Signal Mountain departed this life to be with his heavenly Father on July 29, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lucille Keen of Minden, La.

He is survived by beloved wife, Alice and his two sons, their wives and his grandchild­ren, Herbert and Charity Keen and their son, Mitchell of Falling Waters, WV; Larry and Cammie Keen and Reanna of Joplin, MO.

Donald was born in Minden, La, October 26, 1932, graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1955 with a major in accounting. With an officer’s commission in the U.S. Air Force, Lt. Keen served in Alaska. Upon leaving the Air Force, he became a CPA and followed a career in accounting, retiring as vice president of finance of Wilsonart Internatio­nal in Texas Mr. Keen was a Baptist. Funeral services will be 2:00 Saturday, August 1 at the North Chapel of Chattanoog­a Funeral Home with Pastor Rocky Bradford officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12- 2 Saturday.

Albert Pearce

Albert Alexander Pearce, 82, of Chattanoog­a passed away on July 29, 2020. Albert is a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a lifelong resident of Chattanoog­a. He is a retired Pressman.

He is preceded in death by his two sisters, Jeanne Fransisco, and Joy Brown.

Albert is survived by his son, Alex (Tammy) Pearce; his daughter Angela Conner; brother David Pearce; sister Gay Shetter; 8 grandkids; a bunch of great-grandkids; along with several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Joanne Phillips

Joanne Bond Phillips, 88, of Hixson, Passed away, July 20, 2020.

Joanne was born, February 27, 1932 to Harold M. & Carrie Townsend Bond.

She was born in Dalton, Georgia and graduated from Dalton High School in 1949. She attended college in Florence, Alabama, and Chattanoog­a, Tennessee and lived in Chattanoog­a most of her life. She worked for Provident, taught at Kirkmanand spent several years in offices at Oxford Graduate School in Dayton,Tennessee.

She is survived by three children, Virginia (Mike) Foley, Bryan (Julia) Phillips and Charles (Dawn) Phillips.

She is also survived and missed by grandchild­ren, Carrie (Chris) Sutton, Kathryn ((John) Nelson, Megan (Jay) Jones, Samantha (Nichole) Phillips-Higgins, Claire (Josh) Novak, Alana Zoanni,Benjamin (Courtney) Phillips, Mace (Leda) Phillips, Samuel Phillips, Conner (Kayla) Phillips, Sterling Phillps and ten great grandchild­ren.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. The family requests that masks be worn during the visitation.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers,donations be made to the Chattanoog­a Public Library or Room in the Inn.

Robert Rhan

Robert “Bob” Ronald Rahn, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 28, 1940, passed away peacefully at his home in Hixson the morning of his 80th birthday.

While his health had been declining over the last few weeks and the last 28 years had brought many medical challenges for him, God blessed him with an active life enjoying his family, friends, numerous activities, and God’s beautiful mountains and rivers. After serving in US Air Force and completing his Masters at the University of Wisconsin, he had a successful career as a nuclear engineer at TVA in Chattanoog­a and several other companies in the southeast. In 2000, he and his wife, Karen, returned to Chattanoog­a to enjoy retirement with their family and friends. He was an active member St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen Newman Rahn, their children Lorrie (Mike) Holland, Jeff (Jackie) Rahn, Ronny (Gina) Rahn, grandchild­ren Michael (Meredith) Holland, Josh (Allie) Holland, Jeff (Haley) Rahn, Jessica (Travis) Dubert, Jordan Rahn, Nick Rahn, and Jacob Rahn, and great-grandchild­ren Mary McKenna Holland, Noa Holland, Charlotte Rahn, Bobby Holland, and Tessa Mae Dubert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke UMC, 3210 Social Circle, Chattanoog­a, TN 37415.
